Cat's Paw Lace Shawl
Designed by E.J. Slayton

Soft and elegant, this triangular shawl has bands of Cat's Paw Lace, a traditional Shetland pattern. Knitted from the top, it may simply be bound off for a tailored edge, or finished with an optional knitted-on fringe.

The knitted-on fringe is worked in its entirety, then a few of the stitches, worked in stockinette stitch, are unraveled to form a looped fringe. This works particularly well with soft yarns that are not suited for use as a cut fringe. The length of the fringe may be adjusted by changing the number of stitches worked in the stockinette stitch. (The shawl in the photo at right used 8 cast-on stitches.) Experiment to see what you like!
