Heart

Materials

1/2 oz. red 4-ply cotton yarn

Netting Heart

Row 1: With netting, ch 4, dc in fourth ch from hook, turn. (First 3 chs count as first dc--2 dc made.) Front of row 1 is right side of work.

Row 2: (Ch 3, dc) in first st, 2 dc in last st, turn. (4)

Row 3: (Ch 3, dc) in first st, 2 dc in each st across, turn. (8)

Rows 4–6: (Ch 3, dc) in first st, dc in each st across to last st, 2 dc in last st, turn. (14 sts at end of last row)

Row 7: (Ch 3, dc) in first st, dc in each st across, turn. (15)

Row 8: (Ch 3, dc) in first st, dc in each st across to last st, 2 dc in last st, turn. (17)

Row 9: (Ch 2, hdc) in first st, dc in next 5 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in last st, turn. (Ch-2 counts as first hdc—19 sts)

Row 10: Ch 2, dc in next 6 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next 6 sts, sl st in last st, turn.

Row 11: Ch 2, dc in next 6 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next 6 sts, ch 2, sl st in last st, turn.

Row 12: Ch 2, skip first ch-2, dc in next 6 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next 6 sts, ch 2, sl st in last st. Fasten off.

Yarn Heart

Rows 1-12: With yarn, work rows 1–12 of Netting Heart. At end of last row, do not fasten off.

Rnd 13: To join, holding both Hearts wrong sides together, ch 1, matching sts and ends of rows, working through both thicknesses, sc in each st, 2 sc in end of each row around with 5 sc in ends of row 1, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

• 1/2 oz. yellow 4-ply cotton yarn
• 30" of yellow 45"-wide netting (cut into 1 1/2" wide strips)
• H hook or hook needed to obtain gauge

Finished Size: 6" across.

Gauge: Rnds 1-3 = 4" across.

Basic Stitches: Ch, sl st, dc.

Special Stitch: For reverse sc, working from left to right, insert hook in next st to the right, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook (see schematics and drawings).

Netting Circle

Rnd 1: With netting, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 3, 15 dc in ring, join with sl st in top of ch-3. (First 3 chs count as first dc—16 dc made.) Front of rnd 1 is right side of work.

Note: Work rnds 2-4 in back lps (see Stitch Guide).

Rnd 2: (Ch 3, dc) in first st, 2 dc in each st around, join. (32)

Rnd 3: (Ch 3, dc) in first st, dc in next st, (2 dc in next st, dc in next st) around, join. (48)

Rnd 4: (Ch 3, dc) in first st, dc in next 2 sts, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts) around, join. Fasten off.

Yarn Circle

Rows 1-4: With yarn, work rnds 1-4 of Netting Circle. At end of last rnd, do not fasten off.

Rnd 5: To join, holding both Circles wrong sides together, working through both thicknesses, ch 1, reverse sc (see Special Stitch) in each st around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

• 1/2 oz. blue 4-ply cotton yarn
• 30" of blue 45"-wide netting (cut into 1 1/2" wide strips)
• H hook or hook needed to obtain gauge

Finished Size: 5 1/2" square.

Gauge: 3 dc =1"; 3 dc rows = 2".

Basic Stitches: Ch, sl st, dc.

Netting Square

Row 1: With netting, ch 18, dc in fourth ch from hook, dc in each ch across, turn. (First 3 chs count as first dc--16 dc made.) Front of row 1 is right side of work.

Row 2: Ch 3; working in front lps (see Stitch Guide), dc in each st across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3; working in back lps (see Stitch Guide), dc in each st across, turn.

Rows 4-8: Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternately, ending with row 2. At end of last row, fasten off.

Yarn Square

Rows 1-8: With yarn, work rows 1–8 of Netting Square. At end of last row, do not fasten off.

Rnd 5: To join, holding both Squares wrong sides together, working through both thicknesses, ch 1, reverse sc (see Special Stitches) in each st with 2 reverse sc in end of each row around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
